When it comes to advancing technologies, there’s never been a more exciting time. Emerging technologies are revolutionizing every aspect of our lives, at home and in the field. We see these technologies as opportunities – an opportunity to make our products more efficiently, or at a lower cost. An opportunity to create new processes that change how we design and manufacture our products. And most importantly, an opportunity to improve the day to day experience you have in your operation.

Robotics, Autonomous Tech & More

Chances are, you’re already familiar with emerging technologies in agriculture. Autonomous technology has ushered in an era of drones, small-scale robotic seeding, weeding, tillage, spraying and harvesting, with dozens more on the horizon. Technologies used successfully in mining and construction have found their way into farmer’s fields, and that shift has created a demand for better power systems, as diesel and hydraulic power can be inefficient and unreliable.

In manufacturing, other technologies are changing the way companies design, test and manufacture products. At Morris, 3D printing is used in both rapid prototyping and production scale manufacturing. Automation and robotics are also proving to be a solid partnership, with seemingly endless possibilities.

It’s through these new technologies that we’re working to continuously improve the products we bring to market for farmers. Innovation is not just found in the technologies themselves, but in the processes and applications where we put them to use. Advancing technology provides our research and development team with countless ways we can increase efficiencies, explore possibility and rigorously test the products before they go to market.

Balancing Customer Needs & Tech Advancements

But what good is new technology and innovation if it doesn’t serve your needs as a producer? For everyone at Morris, that’s the most crucial element. With a focus on customer feedback, we’ve taken a measured approach to introducing new technologies into our processes and products. Solving problems for our customers starts with understanding what those problems are in the first place. It doesn’t matter if a robot put together the tool you take out into the field if it doesn’t get the job done.

With that in mind, advancements in carbide technologies have offered a way for us to address one common problem: the lifespan of ground engaging tools. Our patent-pending, proprietary process allows for the application of carbide on multiple surfaces, in multiple thicknesses and varying metallurgical properties. Carbide coating improves wear life, protecting the tool from the abrasive properties of the soil. The tool gets the job done, for longer than previously uncoated products could.

What’s Next?

The introduction and implementation of new technologies in agriculture are markers of the evolution of the industry as a whole. We’re excited to be on this journey alongside farmers across Canada and the world. We’re constantly asking – what’s next?
